Pretty Is Not Always Beautiful

Note: Wrote this a while back. I got a couple of emails from teenage girls telling me how they never feel good enough for the society and then I thought to re-share this.

Ever wondered how did you feel when you looked your own reflection in the mirror for the first time as a kid ? Of course, you don't. You were so small back then. Observe a child and get to know. The curiosity of who is there the other side and the happiness that gleams in the eyes when finally the mystery is solved is all what goes through the heart of the little child in the first meeting with the mirror.

But then time passes.....

You grow up as a teen and all the raging hormones overpower you. You do not like what is there in the mirror. You don't like that excess hair on the face, that fat nose, uneven chin and the pimple sprouting on the cheeks which seems bigger the longer you stare at it. You seem a bit too fat even when you are underweight and the list goes on. You go to the supermarket, surf the beauty section and get all those beauty masks and creams that you saw in the advertisements. You then come back home, whine about how ugly and fat you are and waste your precious time in front of the mirror trying to look pretty and never been convinced enough.

This is what teen life of most of the girls has now become. The point is simple, it is the lack of self confidence. They are scared to even look at their own reflection in the mirror and believing that they are never good enough and they may not be accepted in the society. Failing to realize that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder and is only skin deep. Nice quote, huh ? It's true.

You spend majority of your time thinking and caring about how you look than actually finding out your true inner self and this creates the problem. Don't mistake "Beautiful" and "Pretty". They both are two different terms. "Pretty" means the outer appearance and "Beautiful" is the is the inner one, your personality.

It makes me feel sad when I see young teens not happy with their body, their face. C'mon girlies, accept yourself what you are and the world would accept you.  Love yourself and the reflection you see in the mirror.

P.S Inner appearance always weigh more than the outer one.

P.P.S You are not defined by that pimple you desperately want to remove or just how you look.

Stargazing: Diamonds in the sky

The night hides a world, but reveals a universe”
Close your eyes and travel back to a time when you were a kid, outside, staring at the stars. You’d lay on your back, drawing the constellations you knew with your finger. You probably wanted to stay there forever, looking for comets and falling stars, hoping to catch a glimpse of them and just loving that peaceful feeling that naturally comes with it.

I always wanted to be an astronaut as a child.
The dark night sky with shining stars never failed to amaze me. I would stare at them for hours. The longer you stare the more they appear, captivating you more and more by second. Years later, this beauty still mesmerizes me. While gazing up at the stars, I feel a sense of peace within me. It grounds me, humbles me, calms me and holds me at wonder all at the same time. At first they're beautiful then it slowly makes you realize how vast is the space you're looking at and how small you are in comparison and how insignificant all your problems are.
Since the very beginning, stargazing has been the perfect stress reliever for me. It has now become a daily routine for me as it gives me the perfect solitude place and time where I could be all by myself, looking up in the sky and contemplating how beautiful life is. It seems like the only time I can sit quietly and really take in the surroundings. It teaches me to be grateful and humble and all the thoughts in my head which were messed up gets properly organized. It is surprising how many feelings can it generate.
It is said that diamonds are a girls best friend but for me nothing can beat these diamonds in the sky.
If you never tried it before, try it tonight! Experience the nature in its most beautiful and pristine form as it is said experience nature, experience life, experience yourself. I'm sure the beauty would leave you dumbstruck. The stars shining above are a billion of years old. They have stories to tell, mysteries to unfold. All you have to do is just look up.
How does stargazing makes you feel?

Date a girl who takes photographs

(Inspired by the Date a girl... series on the web)
Other posts in the series: Date a girl who writes

Date a girl who takes photographs. Date a girl who is a natural story teller and weaves her story from the photos she takes. Date a girl whose favorite sound is the 'click click' of the shutter of her camera.  Date a girl whose favorite necklace pendant is of the shape of a camera. Date a girl who sees the wonder in simple things and tries to make you see a bit of herself in the shots she takes. Date a girl who looks at the world in wonder.

You might find her in the park lost behind the lens as she blurs the rest of the world around her. With a camera around her neck or in her hands, she won't whine about how her favorite pair of jeans got ruined as she kneels down to get a better angle of her subject. She is the one who  walks slowly for she never rushes, fearing she might miss something beautiful. Or you might find her sitting down with a photo magazine while she appreciates all the hard work that has gone through in taking those perfect snaps.

For dates take her out to photo walks instead of some fancy restaurant. Laugh and playfully fight while she tries to take a candid picture of you. Give honest feedback when she asks about the pictures she took. Feel the pictures as she shows them to you with the childlike innocence in her eyes. Tell her you love her repeatedly until she comes back from her world of photographs and then kiss her when she lifts her head from the camera.

Take pictures of her without her knowledge.Compile them and gift it to her on her birthday. Listen to her ideas on the way back to home and once you reached home, change your Facebook picture into the one she clicked that day. She silently hoped for it.

Date a girl who takes photographs because she will never be afraid to go for any adventure. She likes to stay out and feel the sunshine. Her biggest inspiration being the nature. Date a girl who takes photographs as she will teach you how to look at the world with a whole new perspective everyday and will do it unknowingly.

Date this girl and your life will never be the same again.
